Week 8 - You tube

We all know You tube can be a lot of fun and it is very easy to spend a lot of time cruising the site. I don't spend that much time looking on you tube as it uses up too much of my $$$ paying for it!
I hadn't thought about whether a library would want to have a presence on you tube before. I guess if we wanted to we could use it to showcase our library services. For example we could have videos on
1. a tour of the library showing each section.
2. local history collection, with our Local history librarian showing viewers what is available and some of the historic items
3. storytime/rhymetime showing what happens at each and the fun times had be the kids.
4. housebound service explaining how this is helps members of our community and our need for delivery volunteers.
5. our adult programmes Library lovers and book clubs.
6. our web page, how to use the catalogue and all the other resources on the web page.
7. Internet / wifi service, printing, scanning, photocopying, laminating, fax etc services
8. perhaps we could ask patrons what they like about our library service and compile the comments all together into an advert for swan libraries.
9. maybe we could gather other videos that are on you tube to do with the city of swan and embed them with our own.
Once again it is just a time and money issue to be able to do something like this and whether you would get more members/ interest from advertising ourselves in this way.

I had really wanted to include either with last weeks topic of face book or this week , a clip from the IT crowd about Friendface and how all the characters become addicted to it but alas they don't allow embedding. However here are some links if you want to watch a few clips from this episode.

IT Crowd - Friendface fun

The last link is for another episode of IT Crowd when It Guy Moss is trying to get his computer illiterate boss in trouble buy giving her bad info for her presentation.

It Crowd - The Internet

Below is a funny video telling the original Star Wars movies using Lego. It cracked me up!

  1. Love the movie. I know uni's use movies for virtual tours of their very large libraries with their many services.

  2. Virtual tours of the library services are a wonderful idea but they need to be engaging. To achieve this we would need a team of good writers, otherwise there is too many other really interesting things to see on youtube.

  4. You have a great list of ideas. I particularly like the library tours and promotions of the library services like the housebound service.
